Orlando Data Center Engineer Talent Map (2026)

What data center engineers earn in metro Orlando, which operators and utilities employ them, where in the metro they work, and the projects and local pauses shaping demand.

Staffing a data center project?

A talent map shows where a group of professionals works, what they are paid and who else is trying to hire them. This one covers data center engineers in the Orlando-Kissimmee-Sanford metro area (Lake, Orange, Osceola and Seminole counties). BLS has no data center engineer code, so pay is shown for electrical and mechanical engineers, the two disciplines that dominate data center design. Figures come from the latest Bureau of Labor Statistics wage survey (May 2025), and the project and policy picture uses news and filings from 2025 to 2026. Our data center recruiters update it as new data comes out. See also our Orlando electrical, civil and controls engineer talent maps.

Data center engineer salaries in Orlando

BLS does not track data center engineers as a separate job. The closest match is electrical engineers (SOC 17-2071), because power distribution is the largest design task. The median electrical engineer in metro Orlando earns $119,080 a year, $14,300 above the Florida median of $104,780 and $1,550 below the national median of $120,630. The hourly median is $57.25.

What the spread means in practice: Orlando electrical engineers earn $16,970 more at the median than their Tampa peers, whose median is $102,110. Tampa’s 90th percentile of $162,490 is slightly above Orlando’s $159,060, so the gap is at the middle of the market. Mechanical pay is thinner at the top in Orlando, where the 90th percentile is $140,050 against $164,340 nationally.

Where Orlando’s data center work is

Operators and developers

HostDime, based in Orlando, has built data centers since 2003 and is finishing a seven-story, 100,000-square-foot Tier IV facility in Eatonville. CoreSite, based in Denver, operates a campus of more than 129,000 square feet at 9701 South John Young Parkway.

Engineering firms

Langan Engineering and Environmental Services prepared the site plans for CoreSite’s proposed second building. Kimley-Horn, with an Orlando office at 200 South Orange Avenue, and other local civil firms handle site and utility design for projects in the metro.

Utilities

Duke Energy Florida serves the CoreSite site and the Kenansville listing, and says it is fielding a lot of data center requests. The Orlando Utilities Commission forecasts summer peak demand rising from 1,565 MW to 1,776 MW by 2035.

Public regulators

Local governments now decide whether large projects go ahead. Lake County, Orange County and Seminole County have each moved to review or pause new data centers in 2026.

Lake County

Moratorium

Commissioners voted unanimously on June 23, 2026 for a one-year moratorium on new data center development.

Orange and Seminole counties

Policy

Orange County commissioners backed a temporary moratorium on September 15, 2026. Seminole County has no large-scale AI data centers and began reviewing its code in June 2026.
