What’s driving demand for architects in Jacksonville
- Stadium of the Future. The $1.4 billion renovation covers eight levels and 652,735 square feet in its last bid package. The city issued a $696.5 million permit on February 27, 2026, and the target is August 2028.
- Four Seasons Hotel and Residences. The estimated cost has risen to $387.6 million from $321 million in 2021. Completion is anticipated in June 2027, and private residences started at $4.7 million when sales launched on January 21, 2026.
- Downtown pipeline. The Downtown Investment Authority counted a $7 billion pipeline in 2025, with $3 billion under construction. It lists RiversEdge at $693 million and One Riverside at $250 million.
- Downtown population. Downtown had 9,228 residents in 2025, and the authority projects 13,382 by 2028.
- Healthcare. Baptist Health’s $190 million tower and Mayo Clinic’s oncology and therapy buildings keep healthcare architects busy.
- Culinary education. The Culinary Institute of America plans a 50,000 square foot Southeast campus at 330 E. Bay Street.
Architecture specialties tied to these projects
- Sports and entertainment architects for the stadium and the districts around it.
- Hospitality and luxury residential architects for the Four Seasons and similar waterfront projects.
- Healthcare architects for Baptist Health and Mayo Clinic expansions.
- Mixed-use and urban design architects for Pearl Square, RiversEdge and One Riverside.

The talent pipeline
- Florida State College at Jacksonville. Its Architectural Design and Construction Technology associate degree is 66 credits and includes AutoCAD, drafting and GIS certificates, with tracks in drafting and design, architectural, civil and GIS. It feeds technician and intern roles.
- Licensing. Florida licenses architects through the Board of Architecture and Interior Design. Licensed architects complete 24 hours of continuing education every two years, 22 in health, safety and welfare and 2 on the Florida Building Code, and licenses expire on February 28 of odd years.
- Related maps. Many architects here work with structural and civil teams. See our Jacksonville structural engineer talent map.
What this means if you’re hiring
- Pay above the Florida median. Jacksonville’s $99,230 median beats Florida’s $96,240, and licensed project architects should expect $126,440 or more at the 75th percentile.
- Senior talent is pricey. The 90th percentile of $155,910 is $17,680 above Florida’s, so principal-level searches need budget.
- Watch the project calendar. Design work on the Four Seasons (due June 2027) and the stadium (due August 2028) will be winding down in that window.
- Confirm the license. Check that candidates hold a current Florida license, which renews every odd year.
