The short version: Endra, a Stockholm-based software company, launched Power Studio in September 2026, an AI platform that lays out the electrical system for a commercial building and produces the drawings engineers normally build by hand. It is the clearest sign yet that AI is moving from helping MEP engineers draw to helping them design.
What happened
Endra announced Power Studio on September 16, 2026, at its own launch event in Las Vegas, held the night before Autodesk University. The launch came a few months after a $50 million Series A round led by Andreessen Horowitz. In the same announcement, Endra said it had bought Planlabs, a Swiss AI lab working on mechanical engineering.
Endra already works with large engineering consultancies including AtkinsRéalis, Ramboll, Buro Happold, Hoare Lea and AFRY, and has opened offices in New York, San Francisco and London as it pushes into the US market.
What Power Studio does
- Starts from the building model. An engineer loads the architectural model, sets the project requirements and hands specific tasks to AI agents, such as placing equipment and routing circuits.
- Applies the firm’s own rules. A feature called Playbooks stores a firm’s standards for equipment placement, circuit design, code interpretation and calculation methods, so the agents follow the house way of doing things.
- Checks the physics. A built-in engine checks designs against physical constraints and building codes.
- Produces the deliverables. Outputs include Revit models, single-line diagrams, shop drawings, panelboard schedules and bills of materials.
- Keeps the engineer in charge. Engineers review and approve the work at each stage.
Endra claims Power Studio can complete the electrical design of a 500,000 square foot commercial building in less than a day, compared with roughly two months the usual way. In its public demo, a job it said normally takes about a week was done in around three hours. Those are company figures, not independent benchmarks.
Why Revit is not going away
Endra built its own detailed 3D data model rather than working as a Revit plug-in, because it says Revit’s internal model is too coarse for deep automation. But the output still lands in Revit, so architects, contractors and clients get the files they expect. In practice, Revit becomes the place the design is delivered, while more of the engineering logic happens upstream.
What comes next
Power Studio covers electrical first. Endra plans to add plumbing in 2027 and mechanical once the Planlabs technology is folded in, which would give it a single platform across mechanical, electrical and plumbing. Its product list also covers fire alarm, lighting, containment and conduit.
Who should pay attention
MEP consulting firms, design-build contractors, and anyone delivering large commercial, healthcare or data center buildings. Data center work in particular is short on electrical engineers, and power distribution is where the design hours pile up. If a tool like this delivers even half of what it claims, firms will be able to bid more work with the same team.
The catch
A drawing set that looks complete is not the same as a design someone is willing to stamp. The engineer of record still owns load calculations, fault current, coordination, code interpretation with the local authority and every change once construction starts. Faster first drafts move the bottleneck to review, and review needs experienced people.
What it means for hiring
AI that drafts the electrical layout raises the value of the engineers who can check it, stamp it and defend it.
- PE-licensed electrical engineers stay in short supply. The person signing the drawings is the last thing a tool replaces.
- Strong review skills matter more than drafting speed. Ask candidates how they check a one-line or panel schedule someone else produced.
- Revit and firm-standards knowledge still count, because someone has to write the playbooks the AI follows.

Interview questions for electrical engineers
- If software produced a full one-line and panel schedules for you, what would you check first before stamping them?
- Walk me through how you size feeders and check fault current on a large commercial job.
- Tell me about a time a code interpretation with the local inspector changed your design.
- How would you write down your firm’s design standards so a new engineer, or a tool, could follow them?
Frequently asked questions
What is Endra Power Studio?
An AI platform for electrical engineering in buildings. Engineers load a building model, set requirements and assign tasks to AI agents, which produce Revit models, single-line diagrams, shop drawings, panel schedules and bills of materials for the engineer to review.
Does Endra work with Revit?
Yes. It reads building models and delivers its designs as Revit models, though it runs its own detailed 3D model behind the scenes.
Will AI replace electrical engineers?
Unlikely. Tools like this speed up layout and documentation, but licensed engineers still own the design, its code compliance and its safety. The likely result is fewer hours per drawing set, not fewer engineers.
