What’s driving demand for CAD designers in Charlotte

Transit and roads. Mecklenburg voters approved a one-cent sales tax in November 2025, expected to raise $19.4 billion over 30 years for roads, buses and rail, including the Red Line and the Silver Line.
Grid work. Duke Energy has 7.6 GW of data center load under contract, and substation and distribution design roles are among the best-paid CAD postings.

Central Piedmont Architectural Technology. A two-year AAS taught at the Cato and Harper campuses and online, using Revit, Rhino and Twinmotion. It has a transfer partnership with UNC Charlotte’s Ravin School of Architecture.
Central Piedmont Civil Engineering Technology. An ABET-accredited AAS covering surveying, materials testing, site design and CAD drafting.
Central Piedmont engineering technology. The engineering division also offers mechanical and mechatronics engineering technology programs.
UNC Charlotte. Its School of Energy offers ABET-accredited mechanical and electromechanical engineering technology degrees.
