Apollo Technical has an immediate need for a Senior CAD Drafting Technician to support our client, a premier employee-owned global engineering firm specializing in coastal, marine, and waterfront infrastructure.
Position Overview
In this senior-level technical role, you will operate as a digital production lead executing detailed civil and structural graphics for major waterfront assets. As a Senior CAD Drafting Technician, your focus is entirely on the “stuff”—taking initial engineering concepts, redlines, and rough sketches and transforming them into comprehensive, submission-ready construction document packages. This role bridges the gap between heavy structural details and civil surface data, ensuring that complex designs for ports, piers, and shoreline protection systems are fully accurate and ready for real-world construction.
Key Responsibilities
-
Design & Concept Transformation: Convert rough engineering designs, redlines, and markup sketches into highly polished, finalized construction documents.
-
Specialized Infrastructure Drafting: Draft high-fidelity, detail drawings for specialized marine and civil structures including wharfs, bulkhead walls, piers, ferry terminals, hydraulic structures, and multi-material elements (steel, concrete, timber, masonry).
-
Coastal Project Execution: Develop specialized technical graphics for shoreline construction projects, including breakwaters, revetments, beaches, and beach nourishment plans.
-
Quality Assurance Audits: Conduct rigorous reviews of engineering drawings to ensure absolute, non-negotiable adherence to established corporate and project-specific CAD standards.
-
Multi-Disciplinary Coordination: Actively communicate and coordinate workflow parameters with a diverse stakeholder group, including structural engineers, construction crews, sampling groups, subcontractors, and government regulatory agencies.
Required Qualifications
-
Education: Associate’s degree in Civil Engineering Technology, Drafting/Design, or equivalent hands-on technical industrial experience.
-
Experience: 5+ years of advanced, senior-level production drafting experience explicitly within structural and civil engineering environments.
-
Software Tool Command: Demonstrated heavy workspace experience utilizing Autodesk Civil 3D, MicroStation / OpenRoads Designer, and BIM / Revit.
-
Domain Expertise: Strong operational knowledge of engineering design principles, reinforced concrete, structural detailing, grading, profiles, cross-sections, volumetric quantities, surfaces, and the development of horizontal/vertical alignments.
Highly Desirable Software Tools
-
Coordination & Capture: Bluebeam, Navisworks, ReCap
-
Modeling & Visualization: Inventor, Advance Steel, 3ds Max
Ideal Candidate Profile
Our “Green Flag” candidate is an independent, highly organized production ace who thrives in a high-accountability remote environment. We need someone with the technical “grit” to juggle multiple project deadlines simultaneously without sacrificing accuracy. Because this role requires a practical CAD assessment during the second round of interviews, you must be a proactive communicator who is entirely confident walking technical managers through your file management, alignment modeling, and detailing strategies across both Autodesk and Bentley platforms.
